Purpose of research. The aim of the research is to show the significance of the work values of persons deprived of their liberty outside the penal institution used in the rehabilitation process. Work as one of the main interactions undertaken by penitentiary units aimed at arousing the convicted will to cooperate in shaping its socially desirable attitudes.
Methodology. The subject of the research is the possibility of using work outside the prison in the rehabilitation process. The population of the respondents consisted of 108 persons serving imprisonment in the private and public sectors of the Opolskie Voivodeship. The research was also conducted among 30 employers employing convicts. The main method of research is a diagnostic survey, the research was carried out using a questionnaire and observation and interviews technique Results. Employers employing convicts notice the effects of their work and assess their attitude to work as good. On the other hand, persons serving the penalty of deprivation of liberty employed outside the penal institution declare that thanks to their work they improve their professional skills. However, there are various opinions regarding the change of work among working prisoners.
Conclusions. On the basis of the conducted research, it was stated that convicts show commitment to the assigned professional duties. This may be due to the profits that are received by convicts, its passes, tokens. The work of convicts while serving a sentence is the most punished factor in the criminological and social forecast. It should be stated that convicts staying in a professional environment outside the prison walls have the opportunity to modify their negative attitudes through contact with people from the professional environment and to develop a work habit, which most of the convicts did not have before.
