Abstract

Thesis

Student of the fourth grade starting subject education needs to face lots of difficulties according to adaptation process. New school subjects, new subject teachers, high expectations or necessity of planning learning process and being estimated at school may cause student’s lower self-esteem and worse feeling.

Discussed conceptions

In this article, the author is considering adaptation difficulties and possibility of supporting students in this process by developing their personal intelligences (intrapersonal and interpersonal intelligence). The theoretical concept of this consideration is Howard Gardner’s  theory of Multiple Intelligences (MI). The attention was paid especially on two of the multiple intelligences: intrapersonal and interpretsonal called personal intelligences. 

Results and conclusion

  Student’s personal intelligences may be significant in his adaptation process. The survey shows there is a need of supporting student in adaptation process after transition from elementary to subject education. The author shows the proposal how to support student in his development in the field of his personal intelligences that may also support him in overcoming the adaptation difficulties.

The originality/ cognitive value of the attitude

The author is reflecting the role of personal intelligences in the adaptation of the 4th graders starting their subject education. This is the new approach that may lead to the improvement of student’s personal skills that can be helpful in adaptation process.
