Abstract

Purpose of research. The aim of the study has been to examine the extent to which
teaching aids are being used in the classroom during mathematics lessons. They are
supposed to diversify math lessons, encourage and arouse the curiosity of students, as
well as assist in crossing the degree of diffi culty of mathematical thinking. The usage
of teaching aids is one of the most important ways to diversify and spice up classes
for students. Furthermore students have been asked about their participation during
mathematics lessons.
Methodology. The research has been conducted among secondary school students.
They have been asked about the degree of att ractiveness of math classes, the
usage of teaching aids and games during class. Research has also been conducted
among primary and secondary school math teachers. They spoke about the usage of
teaching aids during the process of teaching mathematics. The study has been performed
using questionnaires, observation and interviews.

Test results. The students are reporting that math lessons are boring and stressful,
but at the same time interesting. They give examples how to solve this particular
problem, demanding games and practical teaching. Teachers declare the usage of teaching
aids, but they rather use devices instead of everyday objects.
Conclusions. Promotion of creative teaching methods during math lessons, which
surprise, entertain, explain and at the same time demand. Extend the knowledge of
teachers about the correct usage of teaching aids as well as off er the opportunity and
need to introduce pedagogical innovations. Indicate the possibility of using teaching
and logical games in the teaching of mathematics at diff erent educational levels.
