Abstract

Aim of the study

The main aim of research is to present analyses of arctic territorial dispute between Canada and Denmark over Hans Island. The research was based on showing reasons of dispute, its course and implicationsfor a future. 

Research method

Territorial dispute over Hans Island was investigated by using historical method and method of analysis of primary and secondary sources.

Results

The study showed that arctic territorial dispute over Hans Island had a long historical roots and so far any solution has not been finded. There exsist some proposals of its ending however any of them is currently under consideration. It is high propability that in near future United Nations and international society will be involved in ending this claim. Moreover increasing climate changes in Arctic can influence the course of the dispute.

Conclusions

Territorial dipute over Hans Island differs from other territorial claims. There are used ''diplomatic scrambles'' with humoristic elements due to that some called it ''whiskey war''
