Abstract

Aim of the study. The aim of this study is the examination of postcolonial imaginary
in contemporary Italian cinema, the production of which has signifi cantly increased.
Speaking of postcolonialism, we need to fi rst present the colonial legacy of
Italy, so that we can then smoothly proceed to the postcolonial study of fi lm with the
following analysis of particular movies.

Method. Analysis was based on the most important concepts of postcolonial fi lm
research. Results. Analysed movies less frequently touch on the subject of postcolonialism
directly, also they consider diff erent factors which caused the current migration
tendencies, and also the creation of diasporic communities. Postcolonial fi lm research
is more frequently applied to the concept of multiculturality.
Conclusions. Films under discussion represent contemporary Europe as shaped
by the colonial past, which has created a lasting impact on its current state, and also
through the prism of what followed it, which was migration - currently one of Europe’s
major problems.
