Information technology and its benefits in nursing care of the patient

Abstract

Aim. The aim of this paper is to present the possibilities of application and use of modern information and communication technologies that can improve multidimensional, holistic nursing care of the patient.

Methods. The data was collected from literature reviews.

Results and Conclusion. Tele-diagnosis, teleconsultation and tele-nursing, i.e. services for monitoring the patient's condition and life parameters, and facilitating therapy and rehabilitation at a distance, are a response to the growing demand for modern medical services in an ageing society. This paper discuss e-services as e-consultations, which are a  direct and quick possibility for health check, Internet Patient Account (IKP),  e-prescriptions, e-sick leave and also the project "TeleNrsCare”, which create a network for the exchange of knowledge, technology, experience and best practices. E-health and information and communication technologies can bring benefits to the whole society by improving access to medical services and improving their quality. An ageing society and an increasing number of those who are chronically ill and stay at home result in the need for a highly qualified staff and relevant technology to quickly and efficiently provide them medical assistance.

Author Biographies

Iwona Klisowska, Department of Health Promotion, Department of Public Health, Faculty of Health Science Wroclaw Medical University, Bartla 5, Poland,

Iwona Klisowska graduated the Medical University with a very good result, and obtained the Master's degree of Nursing in 2003. Then in 2018 she obtained the title of specialist in the field of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Nursing. Currently, she works at the Health Promotion Department as a lecturer, where she also performs the function of a adjunct. The first professional experience she had gained at the Provincial Specialist Hospital in the Intensive Care and Anesthesiology ward. Then she was professionally associated with the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Pediatric Therapy, where she was a departmental nurse for 12 years.
She participated in the Lower Silesian Science Festival from 2015 to 2016 and organized the Day of Potential Marrow Donors with the DKMS Foundation in 2015. She also participated in the Health Education Project in the Library - Nursing for Local Community. From 2012 she is a member of the Polish Nursing Society.
She is the author of 46 scientific publications.

Mariola Seń, Department of Health Promotion, Department of Public Health, Faculty of Health Science Wroclaw Medical University, Bartla 5, Poland,

PhD in medical sciences in the area of social medicine. Graduate of the Faculty of Nursing of Academy of Medical Sciences in Wrocław as well as post-graduate studies of the Faculty of Polish Philology of the University of Wrocław in logopaedics. Currently, the acting head of the Department of Health Promotion in the Cathedral of Public Health in the Silesian Piast Academy of Medical Sciences in Wrocław. Since October 1st, 2009 an employee of the Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Cracow Academy in Cracow.

Agnieszka Lintowska, Department of Health Promotion, Department of Public Health, Faculty of Health Science Wroclaw Medical University, Bartla 5, Poland

Agnieszka Lintowska – MSc. MA. –psychologist, univeristy lecturer in health promotion subjects at Dpartment of Public Health. Her interest and publications are focused on the issues related to the risk behaviors in health, stress management and improving communication with patients in Healthcare System.

Jadwiga Staniszewska, Department of Health Promotion, Department of Public Health, Faculty of Health Science Wroclaw Medical University, Bartla 5, Poland

Jadwiga Staniszewska graduated from the Faculty of Nursing, Medical Academy of Wrocław, in 1993. She has professionally associated with the University of Medicine since 2002 as the senior lecturer in the Department of Health Promotion (Faculty of Health Sciences), where she conducts practical classes in Primary Health Care. Professionally she deals with broadly defined health promotion and health care for elderly people and implements vaccination programme for children and adolescents at the outpatient clinic.

Andrzej Staniszewski, Trial-Med-Pro Andrzej Staniszewski, Hallera 144 Street, Wroclaw, Poland

Andrzej Staniszewski, MD, PhD graduated from the Wroclaw Medical University, Faculty of Medicine, in 1977. He received his medical and surgical training at the University Hospital in Wroclaw and Wien-Lainz Krankenhaus in Vienna (Austria). He was also actively involved in several research projects (including those funded by European Union grants), and received his PhD degree in 1986. He has Board Certifications in general surgery (1986) and family medicine (1999). Between 1979 and 1996 he worked in surgical settings, gaining particular expertise in surgical oncology and general thoracic surgery. Between 1996 and 2008 he was working as an Assistant Professor (“adjunkt”) in the Department of Family Medicine (WMU). After leaving WMU in 2008 he was employed by Clinical Research Organizations ICON plc and CROMSOURCE. Since 2014 he has been working as a general surgeon at LUX MED medical centre in Wroclaw. His research activities focus on ambulatory surgery, eHealth and the medical Internet. He is a member of several scientific societies, and also the author or co-author of 80 articles and book chapters, and more than 90 congress abstracts.
